Post Articles And Exchange Links For SEO

November 5th, 2009

Everyone who is anyone in the SEO world will tell you that getting anchored links back to the pages of your web properties is the number one most important thing you can do to give a boost to your search engine results. And if you want to make money blogging then you are going to have to get high up on those search engines to generate plenty of targeted traffic.

The problem is trying to figure out how to convince web masters in your chosen niche to pass on some of their precious Google juice with a back link to you sites. Many Internet Marketers get round this problem by creating a huge Internet presence by building hundreds for websites and blogs for themselves which they can use to pass the juice whenever they need it.

This concept is known as blog farming and the idea is that your build many, many sites that you get indexed in Google and feed with many junky backlinks in order to inject them with some of the magical Google juice so that whenever you need link to your main money properties you can simply harvest them from your farm.

Blog farming is something I’ve never touched because Google sees it as gaming the system and if they catch you they will do everything in their power to take down your farm and all your hard work will vanish instantly, not a pretty thought. This is not to say that building a blog farm isn’t worth the effort if you know what you are doing and can hide your tracks. I just don’t have the skills or patience to make something this intricate with the knowledge that it could all end in tears. If you want to play in the time though and are willing to take the risk its something you might want to look into.

I like to stick to more white ( or maybe that should be gray ) hat methods of pushing my sites up the SERPs such as link exchanging. This is one of the best ways in which you get better results in Google and you should start communicating with others who operate in similar niches to see if you can work out a way to build some link exchanges. Remember, 3 way link exchanges are better and make sure you use varied, relevant anchor text.

Another method of getting backlinks which can work wonders especially in the beginning when creating a new site is to post articles on an article directory or three. Directories such as Ezinearticles, Hubpages, Squidoo and Infobarrel are desperate for content to fill up their sites. Provide them with these interesting articles and they will give you a couple of links which you can use for your own purposes and because these sites have authority in the eyes of Google some of their precious juice will be passed along to you.

The difference between those that get the search engine results they need to make the money they want and those that fall by the wayside is in the quantity and quality of the backlinks they manage to build. Get creative and spend more time on building the links than any other part of your make money online business and eventually you will start to reap the rewards.

  1. The most precious trick in Blog marketing is you should know how to build backlinks and various tips to fetch them, once you know that you can drive as much as traffic you want towards your link.

  2. Article marketing can be quite useful to build effective back links, you just have to know which article directories are very good in passing the link juice to your site.

  3. Just make sure where ever you posting your articles to that they don’t strip off all the links or “no-follow” them. Read their rules on posting articles. If they do remove links it’s not completely horrible. You could still get some traffic but it wouldn’t be as good as a direct link.

  4. Not a big fan of link exchanges. Don’t put a huge list of links on your site. Posting articles in Ezinearticles.com are great for backlinks.

  5. Hi Kai,

You don’t have to put a huge list of links on your site to get benefit from link exchanges. A getting a few blogroll exchanges can definitely help big time with your SEO. And if you don’t want to have any links listed at all you can always so “incontent” link exchanges.

Yeah, Ezine articles is great for getting backlinks but after you have a bunch from that source getting any more is going to do you much good.

  6. It is best to have mixed type of links. Articles, directories comments, you name it. As long as they’re legit, you won’t end up having your hard work go to waste compared to link farms. People who do link farms have plenty of resources at their disposal so in a n event of failure, they just go back up and do it again.

  7. I absolutely agree. Few HIGH quality relevant links would make a big difference. I also tried putting links in keywords that are in my articles. It looks very natural :) .

And yes, I believe it’s “1 vote” per website so getting millions from same Ezinearticles.com won’t matter.

  9. I watched The Keyword Academy’s Massive Traffic 101 video. Can you tell me if Shimano fishing rods is the same as Shimano rods in a title….I need to know if this page ranking will be ignored (My hypothetical keyword is Shimano rods.), as it is given a number 4.

    Thanks!

  10. Getting quality link exchanges can be one of the more difficult things that a webmaster has to do…but also the most valuable.

I’ve never gotten into article submissions. My philosophy is that I’d prefer to put that article on my site and get the search engine traffic directly rather than the SEO juice from the article directory, but I can see the benefits to both paths.

  11. Hi Tracey

“Shimano fishing rods” and “Shimano rods” would be two different keywords. So, if “Shimano fishing rods” was in the title of one of the results and your keyword was “Shimano rods” then your keyword would be worth going after. As long as the PR of the top four results is 4 or less.

  12. Thanks for the link, by the way. I am finding out that getting backlinks is the hardest part of ranking. I do not want to build a blog farm either. Too much risk of getting taken down by Google. The only thing left is to produce masive amounts of good content on lots of IP’s.

  14. I like article posting articles. It is faster to do than link exchange because in link exchange you have to send the sites owner a message, then he has to reply you. And this might take time. Some might take 3 weeks to respond back to you. Article directory is for you to submit and hop on to the next one.

  15. One thing I do from time to time is write “guest articles” for other peoples blogs. These allow me to expose myself, get a powerful backlink and in turn rise in the SERP’s.

  16. Article PR is a way of increasing your search engine ranking. It’s a completely legal form of Search Engine Optimization and favored by Google. In essence, you’re trading knowledge for backlinks (inbound links to your site).

  17. I’ve heard that one-way links help your site rank best. Article writing sounds great, just takes more creativity than I have.

  19. I don’t think Link Exchange would work for SEO..the best thing that can get better results was Articles. Submitting about 20 articles to a directory like Ezine Articles with the right anchor text would get you a really good ranking for some search terms. What do you think about this guys?

  22. I totally agree with you. Blog farming is a good idea but it takes a lot of risks and, worse of all, it creates a bad fame around you. You have to be very sure bout what you do when doing this. I think your option is much more safe and intelligent!

  23. Reciprocal links are not as effective as they used to be a few years ago. Article submission is the much more effective in terms of seo.

  25. Great post, backlinks are some of the most important concepts of seo. I think what you were referring to was link wheels instead of white/grey hat. Link wheels use web 2.0 properties, social bookmarking, blog comments, forum posts, directory submissions, and more to create a lot of backlinks and proper anchor text back to your money sites. I use these concepts to create 75% of my backlinks for my various blogs, websites, and business websites.

    Thanks

  26. I don’t know if this was mentioned in any of the comments, but a great way to get a good boost to your SERP is to use social bookmarking. You can use online software such as Onlywire. Just create accounts with all of the leading bookmarking/sharing sites and place the info into Onlywire and you’re on the fast track to more traffic.

  27. Posting articles and then commenting on other blogs is no doubt very useful for backlinks. However, one should be extremely careful while commenting as spam comments might not be approved and bring you a bad name. Don’t just comment for the sake of it. Comment only when you have some value to add to the original article so that readers are bound to click on your name :)
